If you are anything like I was, chances are every year you have all of these goals you want to achieve and you are all pumped about it in January! Then before you know it, December is here and you haven’t even accomplished half of the goals you set.
That’s probably because you didn’t have a plan for all these goals. Well keep on reading because I am going to help you crush your goals for the year!
1 Set aside some time to think about your goals.
Dedicating a set time to think about your goals, will set you up for success in the upcoming year.
It is also a great idea to talk about your goals with your partner so you both can be on the same page. If your kids are old enough to understand you should definitely include them as well. You can even make a family night out of it.
2 Decide what kind of goals you want to set for the year
Will those goals be career oriented? business oriented? financial goals? or will they be personal goals? They can definitely be all of the above!
3 Separate each type of goals in their own category
Once you have decided what kind of goals you want to achieve separate each of them on a sheet of paper. I created a template for you that you can DOWNLOAD Here. Template also includes a blank page you can fill out with your own category.
You can DOWNLOAD the template here
Write down every single goal that comes to mind in the appropriate category. Whether it is something as small as not snoozing your alarm every morning to something as big as making an extra 10K of income for the year with your hobby. Write it ALL down.
4 Do your goals fit the SMART goals criteria?
A few weeks ago I attended an online webinar through Cliquish about setting goals for 2020. That is when I was reminded of SMART goals.
Once you have written down all of your goals go through them to see if they meet the SMART goal criteria. Here is an example of a SMART goal
Increase my blog traffic by 2% each month for the entire year
This goal is Specific Measurable Attainable Realistic Timely.
5 Decide a time frame for each goal
Remember even if you don’t achieve your goal in the specified time frame that is OKAY as long as you are actively working towards that goal.
With that said it is important to set realistic time frame.
Aside from having big yearly goals, I like to make a list of goals I want to accomplish each month to help me reach my bigger goals at the end of the year You can DOWNLOAD my monthly goals template here.
For example one of my goals is to launch my YouTube channel by June of 2020, so I will put that on my goals for the month of June. I will also have smaller goals between January and June to help me reach that goal in June

6 Put all those goals into a calendar where you can see them daily
This could be a digital calendar, a planner or a calendar you have on your wall, whatever you decide make sure this is something you easily have access to.
I have 3 separate planners that I look at very often, one dedicated to personal family goals, one dedicated to our finances and one dedicated to my blog.
I also have one large wall calendar where I write important date for everything.
Find which method works for you and stick to it.
7 Plan How you are going to achieve each goal
A good way to plan is start from the end, decide what you want to accomplish and work backwards.
Here is an example of my thought process for a goal. You can click the image to download and save it for future reference

I included a blank copy of this planner in a PDF you can download and print below!

8 Re-evaluate each goal throughout the year
It is important to re-evaluate your goals throughout the year, to see if you are on track or need to adjust your time frame.
Pick a time that works for you to do this, that could be weekly monthly or quarterly ( every 3 months).
9 Whatever does not work change it.
Remember nothing is set in stone, so if you are doing something that is not getting you the results you want then change it.
For instance if you said you were going to post a blog three times a week and you find that you just can’t keep up with three times a week, then change it to what fits your life. Being consistent once a week is better than not being consistent.
10 Don’t take on more than you can handle
This is a big one that I still have a hard time following. Having goals and achieving things is great but remember you still need to take care of you and rest.
