Creating content for your blog can be hard and frustrating, even when you are blogging about something you enjoy. A lot of work goes into it behind the scenes.
Although I love what I blog about I found myself getting frustrated and feeling overwhelmed with all of it at times. So I had to take a step back and figure out how to work smarter instead of harder.
These 6 tips below have definitely been a game changer for me since I started implementing them.
1. Decide How Often you Want to Publish
Decide this for blog post, YouTube video and or Instagram
Be realistic with how often you actually can keep up with it. When I initially started blogging I planned on publishing a blog post twice a week. Then it got real…. I was barely making it to posting once a week because of my busy schedule.
The goal is to eventually be ahead so you have a couple of weeks or even a couple of months worth of content ready to be published.
Remember the key is to be consistent but it’s not the end of the worlds if you miss some days.
2. Plan out your Editorial Calendar
If you are going to succeed you have to PLAN PLAN PLAN I can’t stress that enough.
Here is how I plan my editorial calendar
First I write down major and minor Holidays that are relevant to my brand. I usually like to do this one or two months ahead, but I decided going forward I will be doing that at the end of each year in December for the entire upcoming year. Here is a good website with all the national holidays.
Then I decide if my blog post will coincide with any of those holidays for example if I am writing a post about Halloween decorations then I would plan for that post to go live 2-3 weeks before Halloween.
3. Use your Instagram Caption as Content for your Blog Post
This is a tip I learned from one of my mentors. Your Instagram captions should be meaningful and they should be bringing something valuable to your audience. Once I started doing this it cut the work for me by at least fifty percent, because I was easily able to copy and paste my caption into a blog post.
Of course my captions are not as long as a blog post, but more like a preview to the blog post.
Here is an example of an Instagram post with a preview to my blog post.
4. Plan your Sponsored Post around your Organic Post
It’s so important not to have multiple sponsored post back to back. Just think about it, have you ever been on an influencer’s Instagram account and all you saw was sponsored post after sponsored post and you felt like they were just trying to sell you product after product?
Well…. Don’t be that person.
Have lots of organic post in between your sponsored post. It’s okay if from time to time you have to have 2 sponsored back to back. But if your page is just full of #sponsored and #gifted in the caption people will just fell like you are trying to constantly sell them stuff.
5. Blog about Topics you Actually Enjoy
I think this is one of the most important things when it comes to blogging. Don’t pick a topic because everyone else is doing it. Trust me I was doing that and I was miserable. If you hate DIY don’t try to do a blog post about DIY holiday decor you just because it’s the holidays and it seems like everyone is creating content around DIY holiday decor. You will hate creating that content and just set yourself up to fail.
6. Have your Instagram and Blog Flow Together
Once a blog post goes live, within a couple of days I would post something on Instagram that’s related to my blog post topic.
