Have you ever walk thru the shoe department and spot the perfect flats! YES you know what I’m talking about!! Instant love! Before even touching them your already imagining the perfect happy life you will have with these flats, all the outfits in your closet it will go with. You are practically ready to say I DO! Until you put them on and feel the aching pain that is…. And you know in your heart that this will be a painful relationship filled with blisters….. Yet you talk yourself into purchasing them anyways and tell yourself you can “change” them. Every time you slip them on to wear out you are reminded of the pain and blisters they will come with and quickly put them back in the box where they end up unworn for months sometime years…… Yup I’m guilty of this!
After realizing all the money I’ve wasted doing this, probably hundreds of dollars, I decided to find a solution! And I will be sharing them with you!
- Stop buying flats that are painful the moment you put it on at the store: There’s a different between the flats feeling snug and just feeling painful. If it is snug then you can possibly stretch them out (I will show you a few ways bellow), but if its painful chances are that they will still feel painful even after stretching. Yes I know this is easier said then done. But when I realized all the money I was wasting doing this I stopped.
- Buy half a size bigger: This will help when you’re prone to get blisters on the back of your feet. To prevent the blisters and the flats from slipping off your feet, place a rub relief tape on the back of the flats at the very top. Makes sure you press firmly and wait a few minutes before putting the flats on. Here is my favorite rub relief tape (click Here). These are life savers! It comes with a dispenser that cuts the tape.
- Look for curved / foldable flats with a bit of a stretch: This will prevent the flats from slipping off your feet if you get half a size bigger. BUT you don’t want one with an elastic band like stretch at the back, in my experienced this never ends well because the it makes the shoes too tight in the back and you end up with a HORRIBLE bleeding blister.
- Expensive doesn’t always equal to comfort: I’ve tried on flats that cost over $100 and they were the most uncomfortable flats and I’ve tried flats that cost less than $10 that were supper comfortable!
- If you already own snug painful flats here are a few ways you can stretch them
Put on a thick pair of socks and put the flats on and wear them around the house.
Take a few pair of socks and ball then up and stuff the entire shoes especially in the front, and leave them in the closet for a few days.
Here are some of my favorite flats that are supper comfy and reasonably priced:
