Now that you have decluttered and organized your kitchen, I am going to give you some tips on how to keep it organized and clutter free. Don’t be fooled and think that my kitchen is clean 100% of the time because it’s not. I work full time and have a toddler so it happens quite often some days we go to bed with the kitchen a mess.
Have a designated spot for everything
This is probably the most important thing, if you have to go thru a mission to put something away chances are you won’t. so make your life easier and move all the items you use often to the front in a designated spot, and items you use once in a while to the back. Giving every item a home gets you in the habit of putting that item back in the same spot every time.
Eliminate all the clutter on your counter
Just doing that alone will make your kitchen space feel less cluttered. Unless it is something that you really use on a daily basis it does not need to stay on the counter. I use to keep my blender on the counter but I ended putting it in the cabinet because we did not use it every day, and even if we did it takes 2 seconds to put back. Here’s a tip put it in the cabinet that is directly below or above the counter space you will put it on when in use.
Don’t buy items in bulk you don’t use often
We have a Costco membership so I was buying practically everything in bulk from paper towels to paper plates to dish soap, and then all those items started driving me crazy because I did not have space to have a designated spot for them. They were all just piled up on top of each other. So I stopped buying everything in bulk, only the items we truly went thru pretty quickly.
Keep track of items you are running low on
This will prevent you from buying unnecessary items at the grocery store. This has happened to me so many times, I can’t remember if I am running low on an item or not so I purchase it. Only to get home and realize I already had a back up of that item.
Take foods out of their packaging
I don’t take every food item out of their package, but I do this for most dry items such as nuts, cereal, chips. Decide which items make sense for you to remove from their packaging, I usually only do this for items that I use quite often.
Clean your fridge the same day you go grocery shopping
You are going to have to move stuff around anyway to make space for new groceries, so just take the extra time and clean out your entire fridge including spills and check for expiration date.
Do the dishes/ run the dishwasher every night before bed
I’ve been doing this practically every night even if the dishwasher isn’t completely full. I load the dishwasher throughout the day, that way at night all that’s left to load is what we used for dinner
Unload the dishwasher first thing in the morning
I started doing this the last couple of months, and I found that it really helped with keeping the kitchen clean, especially the sink. If the dishwasher is empty first thing in the morning, then it will not be a hassle to load it throughout the day as you use the dishes.
Here is the dishwasher soap I use, as well as the dish soap
